Tasting notes

Dusted blackberries, plums, and dark fruit tones coalesce into a wide expanse of engaging freshness and vibrancy. Creamy tannins tell a story of a layered and complex wine. Brilliant raspberry reduction, Rainier cherry, and cassis unfold in waves through the mid-palate to its impressive, well-tiered finish. The 2018 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is truly symphonic in its progression of flavor, density, power, and lift.

Vintage Notes

Turnbull is rooted in the culture and history of the Napa Valley, making wine of exceptional quality in Oakville since 1979. At the core of our independently owned business is our estate-grown fruit, which we carefully tend to from dirt to bottle. We craft our wines with integrity and without compromise, and our signature is a wine defined by consistency of balance, structure, and depth.

2018 marks yet another excellent vintage for the Napa Valley. The near-perfect weather conditions and generous length of this vintage allowed our Cabernet Sauvignon to come into perfect ripeness at a leisurely pace, resulting in the even development of acidity and a fuller expression of place.

Viticulture

In the vineyards, we focus on farming each vineyard to the highest quality. At the end of each vintage, we reflect on our practices, consider what Mother Nature handed us, and then challenge ourselves with the goal to push the bar even further in the next vintage. Each vineyard site lends its own voice and signature to the resulting blend. For example, the fingerprint of the famous Fortuna Vineyard shines through in this wine, providing tart, fresh red fruits and spice box components; Amoenus Vineyard lends dark cherry tones and a mid-palate width; Leopoldina Vineyard provides structure and texture, and dense black fruit; Our home vineyard surrounding our historic winery brings fresh red fruit and focus.

Vinification

It starts with the painstaking process of vinifying lot by lot, tasting and evaluating each for specific attributes and characteristics. Like a complex puzzle, Winemaker Peter Heitz weaves together a narrative of place, tasting through and chalking each barrel, one by one, to determine the final blends. Our wines are aged in 100% French Oak barrels and rest in bottle for extended time so that they may be enjoyed as they were intended: upon release and over the long-term.
