Tasting notes

Offering up aromas of crisp orchard fruit, gooseberries, citrus oil and beeswax, the wine is medium-bodied, chiseled and incisive, with a delicately textural attack, fine mid-palate depth, and a long, saline and acid-driven finish. At less than 12% alcohol, this is the raciest vintage of Beau Rivage that we've produced; but, thanks to the year's comparatively low yields—which made attaining full flavor maturity at low sugars easy—it's also one of the most aromatically expressive young.

Vinification

This wine was produced from organically farmed fruit grown in the mineral-rich, alluvial soils of Clarksburg, California. Cool maritime breezes means that Clarksburg enjoys a cooler climate than most of Napa Valley, despite its inland location. The grapes were  harvested in the early hours of the morning to retain freshness. After meticulous manual sorting, some of the harvest was crushed before pressing and some was whole cluster pressed, in function of skin maturity. After a period of settling to remove the gross lees, the must was  barreled down in a mixture of used pièces and demi muids from coopers including Tonnelleries Stockinger and Gauthier, where it fermented and matured on the lees with minimal stirring.
