Tasting notes

A rich garnet color, the wine reveals lifted fruit aromas of bright strawberry and jammy fruit, mocha, vanilla, and toasty oak. Expressive boysenberry, blackberry, dark cherry, juicy strawberry, and toasty mocha flavors lend complexity to the soft, plush palate. The well-integrated oak provides structure and depth seldom seen in Pinot Noir.


Vintage Notes

The 2019 vintage was a moderate growing season throughout spring and summer. Due to cooler temperatures, harvest started slightly later than normal, around the first week of September. Consistent and moderate temperatures allowed harvest to maintain a steady pace, where it finished in early November.
The near-perfect temperatures and lack of precipitation allowed the grapes to fully ripen and be harvested at the optimal time, giving our Pinot Noir beautiful color, texture, and flavor.

During fermentation, both punch-downs and pump-overs were used to ensure balanced extraction of flavor, aromatics, structure, and color. We aged in French oak to allow the sweet and structural influences from the oak to mingle seamlessly with the rich fruit and ripe tannins. The result is an evocative wine that is well-balanced, richly flavored, and deliciously complex.


Winery Description

Meiomi wines take their name from the word for “coast” in the language of the native Wappo tribe, a word that best symbolizes the character of the coastal California vineyards which lend their fruit to Meiomi’s distinctive wines. Using some of the best grapes in Sonoma, Santa Barbara, and Monterey counties, Director of Winemaking Melissa Stackhouse and her team blend the best expression of each coastal region into a harmoniously balanced and rich style across Meiomi’s Chardonnay, Rosé, and Pinot Noir.


All of our vineyards can be found in California’s sought-after, cool-climate coastal appellations of Sonoma, Monterey, and Santa Barbara counties, which have proven ideal for producing world-class Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Rosé. By blending fruit from these three regions together, we create richly layered wines of bold  character and exceptional balance, every vintage. These wines are always rich and ripe, yet elegantly expressive, with depth and complexity.


MELISSA STACKHOUSE - Director of Winemaking
A curious person with a love of the outdoors, Melissa combined her love of agriculture and science by earning a degree in Viticulture and Enology at the University of California, Davis, and then joining some of California's top wineries—including La Crema, Clos du Bois, J Vineyards & Winery, and Jackson Family Wines—as winemaker. Since becoming Director of Winemaking at Meiomi, Melissa has embraced the opportunity to blend and balance the best fruit from Sonoma, Monterey,
and Santa Barbara counties. In her blends of these cool-climate grapes, she creates wines of harmony and bold character–ripe and rich, with expressive depth and flavor.
